------------------------------------------ Firmware Upgrade/Downgrade NetComm NB5580W ------------------------------------------ Author: Jamie Morrison Revision: v1.0 30/4/05 ----------- Preparation ----------- 1) Make sure you have a backup of your existing configuration. If you don't know how to do this see Note 1. 2) Make sure you have a copy of your EXACT existing firmware revision. Otherwise the backup may be useless. 3) Document your OnePage Setup. It's hard to remember after you have factory reset the box. 4) Download all versions of the firmware to your PC before you start. It's a whole lot harder when you have broken the Internet connection. You can get versions here: http://theether.net/download/NetComm/NB5580W/firmware ********************************************************************************* * WARNING: Upgrading your firmware may result in loss of Internet connectivity! * * WARNING: Upgrading your firmware may result in a dead NetComm NB5580W! * ********************************************************************************* ***** You have been warned ***** -------------------- Doing the BAD thing! -------------------- The upgrade process: -------------------- 1) Choose your weapon. I could only get a connection with NB5580W_1.04.20_00_1124_code.bin 2) I use the TFTP program to upgrade/downgrade. Use the web browser if you prefer. Check out the TFTP /A command line option if you want to change the timeouts. The downgrade process: ---------------------- 1) Choose your weapon. I could only get a connection with NB5580W_1.04.20_00_1124_code.bin 2) I use the TFTP program to upgrade/downgrade. Use the web browser if you prefer. Check out the TFTP /A command line option if you want to change the timeouts. 3) To downgrade below v1.04.23 ("Old ADSL firmware!!" error) I factory reset the box (password: admin) and set Device Admin | Remote Upgrade = Enable, then use TFTP to upload the code. Troubleshooting the connection: ------------------------------- 1) "Troubleshoot NB5580 Connection.pdf" suggests changing the Operation Mode to ANSI or G.DMT if AUTO doesn't work. Didn't work for me, but information is power..... Hope this helps you at 1am..... Cheers, Jamie. ---------------------------------- Check out http://www.knowmates.com ---------------------------------- Note 1: If you don't know how to do these basic tasks, do not attempt to change the device firmware. It will just end in tears......
